LOST IN TRANSLATION
Borrowing its title from Sofia Coppola’s film, Lost in Translation turns the gallery into an interior shaped by intimacy and the distances that remain within it. Here, translation takes place between people: between what is felt and what can be said, between closeness and withdrawal, between the desire to be understood and the inevitable partiality of knowing another person.
The works deliberately borrow the language of domestic space. Photographs become windows; shutters and curtains interrupt the view; condensation obscures what lies beyond; a skeletal piece of furniture, softened by fallen fabric, carries the trace of a body no longer there. Rather than depicting intimacy from a distance, the room constructs its conditions around us. What we can see is repeatedly framed, screened, or withheld, while objects retain the quiet evidence of touch and occupation. Lost in Translation considers intimacy as a fragile negotiation - made through gestures, silences, misunderstandings and the spaces two people attempt, however imperfectly, to share.
