NO HAY BANDA
No Hay Banda unfolds like a sweet and faintly dangerous dream - a theatre in which seduction and unease, tenderness and threat, pleasure and consequence occupy the same stage. The room moves between the delicacy of the domestic and the suspense of the cinematic, allowing apparently gentle forms to acquire an undertow of danger, while darker gestures retain something strangely alluring. Play becomes a dare; sweetness is never entirely innocent.
The title is borrowed from Mulholland Drive, where “No hay banda” - there is no band - exposes the performance as illusion without diminishing its emotional force. Here, this becomes the room’s central proposition: knowing that something is constructed does not make what we feel in response to it any less real. Images appear to exceed their frames, time is broken into successive moments, and objects inhabit the uncertain territory between prop, image and physical presence. Theatre and reality cease to function as opposites; instead, each continually produces the other.
Rather than resolving these contradictions, No Hay Banda remains suspended within them. Desire carries risk, gentleness contains the possibility of violence, and beauty can be both invitation and warning. Like a dream whose fiction is obvious only upon waking, the room asks how readily we surrender to an illusion - and whether recognising the trick ever truly releases us from its spell.
